Bottom of coffin is now attached with glue and wood dowels in a ship lap fashion to allow for seasonal changes in humidity during storage.
Headboard cut to fit and then glued with hide glue yesterday.
This morning wooden pegs were inserted to secure and strength the butt joint.
Next the bottom will be added, and then the breast board can be removed.
Yesterday, after the kerfs were cut and misted with water the bending process began.
Follow along as I build a coffin in the Lancashire method.
The coffin will be made from locally grown and harvested poplar.
The photo on the left shows the sides after the rough lumber was milled to 1/2″ thickness and kerfs cut to aid in the bending process.
Bouncy floors and windows that are difficult to open drive me CRAZY. Solution, glue and screw an additional layer of three quarter quality plywood on top of the original sub floor, install new windows, and then trim it all out.
