Statue of Liberty Armature

IMG_5960

October 28, 1886 the Statue of Liberty designed by Frederic Bartholdi and built by Gustave Eiffel was dedicated as a gift to the United States from the people of France.

Sometime around 1915 my Grandfather, Jerome Jacobbi, landed on Ellis Island as an immigrant from Italy and registered to become a United States citizen.

Last week I was commissioned to built a stand for a piece of the original supporting armature that was brought to New York prior to the dedication.  Yes, it was an emotional experience thinking about Grandpa’s first glimpse of the statue, and now I was holding part of what he saw 100 years ago in my hands.
